TOMMY LEE 'Rescues' U.S. Troops in Afghanistan
May 5, 2006When commercial shipping containers full of personal items destined for a US Army National Guard unit in Afghanistan was raided by thieves, MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee and Operation AC decided to come to the rescue. "I'm so happy to be able to do something for them. Music gets us through a lot... I'd like to tell them to get home safe and keep rockin," Tommy Lee said during a break from his current recording session.
A shipment of copies of Tommy Lee's new album, "Tommyland: The Ride", is on its way to Task Force 50th Personnel Services Battalion, stationed at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan. With it are other CDs, Playstation games, Gameboys, portable DVD players, and other items collected and organized by the nonprofit organization Operation AC. More copies of "Tommyland: The Ride" are being included in care packages for individual troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan all packed by Operation AC in Delaware.
Tommy Lee's album is available in stores now, and his new TV show, "Rockstar: Supernova", will air on CBS in July.
"This shipment to Task Force 50th represents exactly what we do at Operation AC. We send troops things they want," said Frankie Mayo, President of Operation AC. "We may be famous for sending air conditioners and combat boots to our troops serving in the Middle East, but it is really about knowing what the troops need and making sure they're taken care of."
Operation AC currently has one of the largest and most reliable care package programs serving deployed US Troops and has volunteers nationwide and supporters worldwide. Americans can sign up to adopt a US Service member and service members sign up to be sponsored at www.operationac.com.
